These words have been in my website header for at least 10 years. Before this, they were in my email signature.
I’m witnessing the truth of these words this year.

After an event in January, I was reminded that sharing poetry live, is one of the things that makes me feel most me. This prompted me to set an intention to have at least one poet feature or moment per month in 2026.
Words (+ Action) have power
Setting this intention made me search for new poetry events and creative opportunities to get involved in. I put myself forward for things i.e. I made submissions for anthologies. I responded to open call outs. I contacted event organisers to suggest they pair poetry with their event, etc. Some of these, I may have previously allowed fear to say “no” to for me.

Last week I received news of two upcoming poet features. One of them I hadn’t even remembered going for!
The first of the two will be at Off The Chest’s first event for 2026, at Omnibus Theatre in Clapham. Off the Chest revealed me as their guest feature last Friday (15 May) over on instagram.
Georgie Jones will be the headliner and there will be an opportunity for some open mic-ers. is the venue, and the date is Saturday 31 May. You can get your tickets from the theatre here,
As it’s happening in May, this is my 2nd May poet feature. The first was my ‘meant to be’ Creative Conversation with Jennifer Leslie. This was for The Voices of Creative Health podcast.

More to come
The 2nd poet feature that I received news about, is for an event in August. On Jamaica Independence Day at that – whooHOO! I so know what I will be wearing!. Once the final details are confirmed, I will update you.
I’ll also update you once I have secured something for June and July. I have no idea what or where those will be yet. However, so far this year, each month has provided an opportunity, so I intend to keep up this trend.
So what about you?
What’s in your header or email signature? Literal or metaphorical.
- What’s something that makes you feel most you?
- What’s one intention that you are actively following through on?
- What new opportunities and connections could you explore?
