This is the sign which prompted this week’s Thursday Thought.

I was on my way to St Pancras to meet a friend, there was heavy traffic on the road, it caught my eye and I caught it on camera.

Two questions came to mind:

What sign do you need to see?
What sign do you need to create for yourself?

and also became the staring point for this Thursday Thought.

‘What Sign Do You Need to See & Create?’ Thursday Thought, 5 September 2024

“Do you believe in signs?”

A question from the friend I met up with. We were enjoying rich and vulnerable conversation, in the lush atmosphere of The Library Lounge.

There are numerous definitions of ‘Sign’, but in the context of this question, by ‘signs’, she was more referring to signs of an other world kind:

a miracle regarded as evidence of supernatural power (chiefly in biblical and literary use).

I can’t remember exactly what preempted this question, but I know I showed her the photo I’d taken and shared with her the two questions that had come to mind.

We both shared some thoughts about signs, which included beliefs in a Creator or higher power, circumstantial signs or what some might call (timely) coincidence. There were also personal anecdotes of answered prayer—outcomes that felt they could only be explained by some divine intervention.

So what about you? Do you believe?

Even if you don’t prescribe to a faith-based belief or a belief in the divine/universe, I’m sure we’ve all experienced at least one instance when something felt like a sign.

  • That post on Instagram (or socials of choice) that was exactly what you needed to hear, at that exact moment.
  • That call or text from someone that came just in time.
  • Managing to still get to that appointment, despite a myriad of things going wrong.
  • That feeling in your gut, that just won’t go.
