Questions that maybe worth pondering:
- Do you believe change is possible?
- Do you believe you can change?
- Do you want change?
I believe change is possible.
I believe that a significant -if not fundamental- element of working towards and seeing change, is a belief (however small) in the possibility of change. – If one doesn’t feel there is any hope for change, why would you put in the effort, and often sacrifice needed to see it realised.
I believe that incremental, consistent steps can be a way to achieve sustainable change.
This theme of change is fitting; not only because of this week’s Thursday Thought, but also it resonates with an essential essence of Black History Month, as well as our current local & global times.
If the activists and civil rights leaders (here & abroad) hadn’t believe that change was both needed and possible, my life would most likely be very different…
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead
Change is required on many fronts, change has also happened on many fronts.
As we strive for change -personal, corporate, social, global etc.- we must hold the tension between acknowledging and celebrating the change that has come with a recognition and call for the change that is yet to come.
We must also consider what our part and contribution towards seeing change can (and will) be.
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself
Leo Tolstoy
Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.
Barack Obama
