“Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan!“
Today (17th of August) marks 74 years of independence for Indonesia.
I’ll put on my ‘merah putih’ (red and white) and hopefully get to enjoy some of the festivities. Who knows, I might even take part in some of the many customary competitions. – Though probably not the eel relay race!
Freedom is an interesting thing to consider…
For example:
- Freedom from what?
- Freedom in order to (do) what?
- Additionally, am I (you) really walking in the freedom that has been bought for us?
I reckon these are questions -particularly the last one- that all of us, no matter who we are, or where we come from, should consider answering.
As someone came before all of us. Someone planned, worked, sacrificed, and in some cases gave their lives, for us to be able to have the freedoms we do. The freedom to live ‘equally’, to have access to basic necessities, an education, work, etc.
In fact, even now, in some parts of our world people are still laying down their lives in the fight for freedom.

So am I (you) really living ‘Set Free’?
