Finished listening to this book recently and felt I needed a reel to tell you how yuh need to read it.

Press play and hear why.

This book is Safiya Sinclair‘s stunning memoir. She tells her story, and the stories of her parents, siblings, Rastafari, Jamaica, poetry and so much more.

It is an enthralling listen/read, and its ending had eye water welling up.

Safiya, thank you for finding what you needed, to “wade out into this telling.” —I know she will never see this, but thanks are necessary for this amazing lyrical offering.

If you’d like to hear Safiya share some insights into the journey to this memoir (without spoilers), her debut poetry collection ‘Cannibal‘ and more, you can watch this interview

I also need to do a big shout out for Book of Cinz who posted about this book in August 2023. Dat one post made me buy it.

Book of Cinz also started Read Caribbean, so if you
