‘Creating Space’ was one of three word prompts I shared in November. I paired it with a clip of Dr Abi Daré at the Black British Book Festival (BBBF) in October; held at The Barbican, London.
‘Who are you creating space for?’
This was one of three questions* I posed with my LinkedIn post.
One of the ways in which I create space is by sharing Wednesday Word Prompts
If they enable even one person to engage in a moment of creativity, mid week (or whenever they find them), then it is worth the time to do them.
*The other two questions:
- How will you respond?
- Who is (or has) creating space for you?
Friday FreeWrite@Five
Another way in which I am endeavouring to create space is by hosting an online Friday FreeWrite@Five (FFW@5), 5 pm (GMT).
Consisting of a word prompt, a five minute free write and the opportunity for 1-2 people to share what they have written. A 30-minute creative interlude between the end of your day and the beginning of your weekend.
It was originally an idea that I was (and still intend to) planning to tak to my local library about. Then a few weeks ago, I thought why not try it out online. So I recorded an Instagram post and went live@5 the following Friday.
One of the participants of that 1st FFW@5 messaged me personally to share how timely the session and word prompt ‘Creating Space’ was for them. They also shared with me what they had written during the session; it was stunning and poignant. Even more so, considering it was the fruit of five minutes.
Who could you create five minutes of space for and what might be the fruit of it?
Pen to Page
I’ll be hosting another Friday FreeWrite@Five this week (6th Dec.). They are now on zoom and you can register for your free space via Eventbrite. There are 15 spaces.
Join me this Friday and gift yourself a brief moment to put pen to page. You don’t have to consider yourself to be a writer or a creative. Just sign-up, give it a go and see how you get on. Looking forward to seeing you!
